Sin Shawl (Ladakhi Sheep Wool + Merino Wool)
Sin Shawl (Ladakhi Sheep Wool + Merino Wool)
'Sin' in Ladakhi means clouds. This lightweight, handwoven woolen shawl takes inspiration from the ubiquitous clouds that punctuate the azure Ladakhi sky. Cloud is a common motif found in the Tibetan style architecture of Ladakhi monasteries, often painted on the walls and columns, and in Thangkas, brocade textiles and Tibetan rugs used in the region. The motif is rendered in the shawl using an extra weft technique, first-of-its-kind in Ladakh.
Sheep wool is sourced from the soft down hair of Changluk sheep of Ladakh, India. When blended with Merino wool, the shawl attains a unique textural softness and lightness; till now unseen in homegrown Ladakhi wool textiles.
The yarns are mill-spun and dyed in Azo-free dyes. The shawl is handwoven by women artisans of Ladakh.
